The Animal Control Department supports the humane treatment of animals inside the Ruston city limits, through the operation of the Ruston Animal Shelter, educational programs, and enforcement of City and State laws.
Ruston Animal Control officers investigate cruelty cases as well as complaints about barking dogs, aggressive animals, livestock running at large, or other nuisance animals inside the city limits. Live humane traps are available at no cost for use by Ruston residents. Animal Control officers check these traps and tend to impound animals on weekday mornings. Animal Control staff also removes dead animals from roads inside Ruston.
The Ruston Animal Shelter, located at 1212 McAllister Dr., is open Mon-Thurs 7:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and Fri 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
