Regional Airport

Regional Airport

Ruston Regional Airport was developed during the 1940’s as hub for general aviation in Lincoln Parish. Initially, the runway consisted of a grass strip that had previously been farm land. The grass strip was eventually paved to improve all-weather use. A local flying club, various private aircraft owners and a handful of corporate users called the airport home. The airport was designated 3L5 by the Federal Aviation Administration at its original location, immediately south of the downtown area. An early aviation pioneer in Ruston, Mr. S.L. Stuckey, was the founder of Stuckey Flying Service and a long-time manager of the airport. In the late 1970’s Louisiana Tech University established an aviation program at the airport.

In 1995 the airport was moved to its current location, approximately 4 miles east of downtown Ruston and the FAA designation was changed to RSN. The new location consists of a 100’ wide x 5,000 long asphalt runway oriented on 18 / 36 headings. A beautiful new terminal building, officially designated the S.L. Stuckey Terminal Building in 2005, was constructed at the time of the relocation. The terminal building is home to Ruston Flying Service / Louisiana Aircraft, the designated Fixed Base Operator (FBO), a passenger lounge, pilot’s lounge and flight planning center. The Louisiana Tech aviation program was relocated to the new airport and now operates out of a modern Flight Operations Center on the south end of the field. New corporate hangar facilities and a maintenance hanger facility were also constructed in 1995.

Ruston Regional is home to an air-ambulance helicopter service, multiple corporate aircraft, Louisiana Tech training aircraft and privately owned aircraft. Fuel, maintenance and other services are provided for transit aircraft. Aircraft based in Ruston range from home-built, single-seat models to multi-engine turbine and jet aircraft. Area universities, corporations and private individuals utilize the Ruston airport for their air travel needs.

The City of Ruston Airport Authority strives to provide aviation facilities capable of serving individual and corporate requirements. The vision includes a runway extension and improved approach systems to accommodate larger aircraft from the university and corporate sectors.
